The specs required to run the upcoming Creature Creator are now known to all mankind. Rejoice:
* 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent * XP: 512 MB RAM / Vista: 768 MB RAM * At least 300 MB of hard drive space for installation, plus additional space for created creatures. (600 MB for digital download) * A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0*
Expect final requirements for the full game to be fairly close to these. A complete fact sheet can be found here.
Now, if you excuse me, i'm going to pre-order the editor...

A few days ago I posted a link to an article about Spore using an every-ten-day activation system to avoid piracy, and a lot of people didn't like it (especially those who can't play online)
Okay, so, i should have posted this.. ummm.. 2 months ago, but, well... i'm posting it now, ain't i? Ok.
Weather is definitely in
Weather is definitely in. Belgian magazine PC GamePlay reports in a new hands-on preview that Spore features a number of different types, including:
* Rain. * Storms with thunder. * Fog. * A complete day/night cycle.
Not only that, but in the creature phase you have to watch out for nocturnal predators at night. Apart from that little tidbit the preview offered no further surprises.
Shesh, so many news people can't read the previous ones.
The standalone Spore Creator Creator is now available for preorder at the EA Store, and will ship June 15. As previously observed the price is set to $9.99. Also note that it will be available as a direct download.
April 16, 2008 - The Internet was abuzz yesterday when it was discovered the Spore Creature Creator will be included with The SimCity Box, an upcoming compilation of SimCity games that's due out in June. The Creature Creator will let you get a head start on creating your unique alien species for Spore, which is the next game from Will Wright, creator of The Sims and SimCity. Spore has been hotly-awaited for years now, but its release is finally going to happen later this year. To find out more about the Creature Creator, we caught up with Patrick Buechner, vice president of marketing at Maxis.
IGN: So can you confirm the Spore Creature Creator will be in the SimCity Box when it ships in June?
Patrick Buechner: A trial version of the Spore Creature creator will be available for free through a variety of sources including as a download from Spore.com and in The SimCity Box. There will also be a version of the Creature Creator a...
April 15, 2008 - Spore isn't shipping till later this year, but you can get your hand on the game's creature creator this June. That's assuming you pick up The SimCity Box, a compilation of recent SimCity games, that's due out this summer.
IGN has confirmed that The SimCity Box will feature some form of the Spore creature creator. Earlier today, rumors regarding the addition of the creature creator swirled on Amazon and Joystiq , as a box image for The SimCity Box emerged with the Spore content promoted in the corner.
The creature creator will let you start designing a species for Spore, which is a sprawling game that could best be described as almost
astrobiology in a box. Spore is the much anticipated game from Will Wright, the creator of SimCity and The Sims. In it, you create an alien species that evolves throughout the ages, starting in the primordial soup and ending with interstellar exploration.
Spore is a game that inspires self expression through creativity yet links untold numbers of people together from around the world through sharing their creations online. The Spore Dev team have found ways to enhance that experience by allowing players to email a screenshot of their creation to a friend directly from the game or upload a video directly to the web. Spore allows people to connect instantly in ways that have never been done before. Yet, for our incredibly creative team, this still wasn’t enough.
Their procedurally generated systems learn each player’s style and match the content to that specific person. For several months now, a side team has been working on ways to use this same technology to match players to each other, rather than just to the content. Our systems can analyze play style, aesthetic preferences, time spent creating versus playing, and more and then maps that against the data from other players to find a match. The surprising discovery in our focus group testing was that this is most often a love match.
The fansite kit is now also available for download at the official site, at a considerably faster download speed. So grab it if you haven’t already, it’s worth it.
There’s also a small FAQ online with some interesting Q&A’s. On the topic of the much talked about system requirements they say that “While Spore offers a unique gameplay experience, our team is working hard to make sure Spore will be accessible to as broad an audience as possible.” So what to make of this? Wise from previous spec discussions and Maxis track record I think it’s safe to say that we are going to have to up our predictions a bit. The wording hints that such a complex game has to be somewhat demanding, and that they’re currently fine-tuning it to cut hardware requirements, but with no promises; hence the as possible. Hopefully though I’m just reading too much into it and we’ll end up with an acceptable result.
March 25th 2001 - EA and Lionhead release Black & White for PC. "I found the experience much like real life. No matter how powerful I become, my pet cat still won't listen to me. Not even with a rainbow collar." - Kotaku
Just thought it would be nice to remember the day when everyone's perception of PC gaming changed for life.
Happy birthday Black and white, Hard to believe its been 7 years already.
As expected - but now definitely confirmed in a community day with Maxis in Madrid, Spain - there will be no water or air creatures in Spore; though the game will feature a glide capability with the right body parts. Furthermore we learn that there will be no moons, the game will run well on a mid-range PC, and you might get engaged in mass battles. There’s a bunch of other questions answered too so check it out!
Brian Appleyard, with the Times, recently had a look at Spore and got the opportunity to create his own animal; a dinosaurish beast, appropriately called Bryan. The article however is more about Will Wright, Spore’s focus, and its heritage from The Sims, rather than a preview of the actual gameplay. No news, but an interesting take on the phenomena we know as Spo...
Google Blog got a short entry about the YouTube integration Spore will have. Via the YouTube developer API provided for Spore you’ll be able to upload your own creature videos from the game directly onto YouTube. Since the creature editor will be released as a free download before the actual game you’ll be uploading cool videos in a not so distant future!
Electronic Arts are sponsoring the SCI-FI London film festival at the Apollo West End theatre, which runs from 30 April – 4 May. The interesting part for us, however, is that Mass Effect, Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath, Spore, Boom Blox (Spielberg’s Wii thing), and Dead Space will be playable at the event. Man, there’s going to be a fight over that Spore booth. Find out more about the science fiction bonanza (which includes a load more than videogame promos) over here. And I might see you there.
Today I attended two different talks on Spore today and managed to take as many pictures as I could while liveblogging those events. I'll also be posting several videos I took at those events later today once I can find some stable bandwidth to upload these monsters.
All of the pictures were taken from the latest bu...
